Take a long look into the sky and ask yourself, is there something else out there?

Are we alone in the universe?  Has another life form visited us?

The questions have been around for decades, if not centuries, and a worldwide non-profit organization is searching for the answers.

The Mutual UFO Network, known as MUFON, tracks and investigates UFO sightings and determines the validity of what people believe they've seen.

"Generally the state and namely Phoenix is a hot spot for UFO claims and activity," said MUFON investigator Stacey Wright.

Wright is one of eight field investigators in Maricopa County who determines the validity of UFO claims.

"We have reportings from people all over the nation showing us what they think they've seen over the skies of Phoenix," said Wright, thumbing through her MUFON field investigators guide at her East Valley home.

The organization recently launched a local website to help filter the significant increase in UFO interest and sightings in Arizona.

Phoenixmufon.com allows people to report UFO sightings and remain anonymous.

People can also read about sightings and the investigations as they unfold.

"We get reports of different craft, spheres, wing shaped discs, formations in the clouds, there's so many to describe," said Wright.

Over the past two months, the local MUFON chapter has received 32 new reports of sightings that have led to investigations.

"We are our own skeptics, you have to remain a skeptic in this field, just because someone reports seeing something, it doesn't always mean it's legitimate, but that's why we investigate," Wright said.

The Phoenix chapter of MUFON has scheduled a presentation and discussion that is open to the public Saturday, September 20 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library located at 64 E. First Street.

According to a news release, the meeting will be held in the Saguaro Room and includes discussions about the increasing number of UFO sightings from private citizens and prominent public figures such as an Apollo 14 Astronaut. Related Links

The group meets once a month to discuss ongoing investigations, new UFO sightings and upcoming events.

Wright said over the last six months the group has grown from 65 members to expecting 150 to attend this month's meeting.

"We have doctors, lawyers, teachers, members of the U.S. military who want answers just like us, I think that people are finding it a more legitimate field of study than it used to be," said Wright.

MUFON has 20 field investigators in Arizona.  A year ago, the organization had four investigators in Arizona.

With high profile UFO reports such as 'The Phoenix Lights', the interest in unidentified flying objects appears to show no signs of slowing.

"People are seeing things everywhere, whether it's daylight or nighttime and we have people coming out of the woodwork to come to our meetings," said Wright.
