what do you believe? PDF Print E-mail

what do you believe and why do you believe it?

setting aside the great creation debate, what do you yourselves believe?

and then, why do you believe it?

someone told you so?

what if they were wrong?  everything you think is set in stone might melt

into an unslightly puddle and evaporate into foul air.

consider the underlying structure of the universe, that "one blueprint" dr. shostak

notes  in his article, "sharing the universe".

one design.  who designed it?

as far as understanding, i think we are in our adolescence.

now that the pope has declared it to be okay to believe in aliens,

that it does not contradict God,

and that these aliens are "our brothers",

will the rest of christianity follow suit?

is this  a beginning to a new understanding?

i believe the universe is full of life, in many forms and faces, as varied

out there as it is here on planet earth.

creation keeps on creating.

i believe because of the math applied to it, the science applied to it,

and belief in a God who, as Master Artist,

has the immense capacity to create as many worlds as pleases Him to create.

i let my imagination run away with  me.

we go to fine fair and far places.

imagine if we had contact from beings on another world,

who sang of God?

so i strap myself back on planet earth and consider the possibility of

a more savage truth,

that "they" could be as violent a species as we are.

maybe those hellacious distances between our worlds

is a good thing.

what, we can only conquer those distances when we have evolved to

a state of intelligence that has outgrown our savage natures?

good luck, humanity.

but look at it this way.  we have time to do it.

if the timing of the birth, life, and death of stars is so precise,

wouldnt our lives be timed to that precision as well?

man has marched a long way from the cave to the neon jungle he now inhabits,

in a relatively sort amount of time.

according to uncle albert, it is all relative.

to know or not to know
may not be up to us alone.
we may not seem ready, considering the human estate,
but contact is made nonetheless.

for what reason, who can know?

legends grow out of it, of what people have seen, who
people have seen. movies are made with fang-dripping aliens or cute ETs,
and we become familiar.

out of the legends, sub legends grow, of government conspiracies, of cover ups, of MIBs. children play with star wars toys and want to be jedis.
now that aliens have a commercial aspect,
they wont soon disappear.

everyone will want one.

so there is a groundwork being laid down, of familiarity.
with future of course including inter-planetary wars, assuming life out there to be much the same as life here.
which may be one reason why the species has to evolve to a certain stage
before it can conquer the distances of space.
maybe we have to get rid of our garbage first
in order to travel light.

but i dont believe it to be far away.
human progress, however accelerated by technology is still
based on fear, and we have left bloody tracks all the way from the cave to the blistered sands of iraq.

technology will change us, will alter our physical bodies, we will become less physical. within a few generations we may come to resemble those big eyed aliens some see in the night.

i am not sure we get to choose our representatives.
there another agency at work in this relationship.
and that is unknown.
the alien visitors come when they want, to whom they want,
whether that be by convenience,
or by some protocol we dont know.
they have yet to say "take me to your leader". (who can blame them?)
they stare and wonder who we are.
and so do i.
i do believe the human species carries within it a microchip of infinity.
it carries within it our identity.
it will ignite, and we will recognize our destiny as citizens of a cosmos that is populated with many
wondrous species of life.
we will see that we too are star people,
made of star dust,
in little sprinkles that shine with reflected light.
so whether you go inner or outward,
you will still find stars.

I agree with the statement of Sept. 11, 2008 on many levels. I don't believe that, as a species, we are ready for intelligent contact with ET and may not be for many generations. Timing is everything. Too soon and it might be disasterous. Afterall, we still have people who live on this planet who can't accept others who share it because of race, religion, etc. How would you react if contacted? If you might be thought of as representative of the entire human race by our visitors what would you do? Who would you trust with such an enormous responsibility? Outer space will always be there for man to explore. My advice is to also explore our own inner space and make ourselves ready to reach out to those beings who might come calling.
