"it appears as if the cosmos was "fine-tuned" to permit life. if the physical constants that govern the pace at which stars age and die were slightly different, life would not have time to evolve... the entire universe has been constructed with one blueprint thruout.. so if biology appeared here, around an unremarkable star in the outskirts of a run-of-the-mill galaxy, wont it have appeared manifold times elsewhere? after all, there are more stars visible..than all the grains of sand on all earth's beaches..shouldnt we expect that life is a natural, frequent occurence?".........................seth shostak
while i am not of a scientific nature, i appreciate this statement. sometimes i wonder if science and religion arent saying the same thing, just in different languages? thus i believe that faith and knowledge can be partners. knowledge can enhance our faith, faith can adorn our knowledge. one can believe in God and also in life in the universe without peril. the act and art of creation is not limited to one planet but affects the entire cosmos. creation creates, ceaselessly, everywhere, all over the place, and it is a very big place. whatever fabulous machinery this is, a gigantic clockworks timed and paced for the constancy of the stars, it works 78 billion light years across the universe, with precision.
if the lifetime of a star was varied to any degree, we would not be here. with 500 thousand billion stars in our run of the mill galaxy, all ticking to the same beat, all timed to the same meter, we can begin to perceive just how impressive this machinery is. and then take a look at the hubble deep field image, "the most important image ever taken", an image in which every point of light is a galaxy, the numbers are beyond us to understand. apparently, humility is beyond us as well. we have come quite a way since we thought the earth was flat. but there are still residual dregs left in that cup. if we know that the universe was constructed with one blueprint and the laws of physics are constant thru out it all, to very rim, and there are stars beyond our countings, then life would have so many opportunities to occur that it seems ludicrous to me to deny it. the power and force of creation applies to every solar system in every galaxy. and so i think it obvious to expect life is abundant, and God has many children.
